What size electrical service do I need?
Many older homes have 100 amp service. 200 amp is common today, especially with EV charging, electric heat or an addition, and larger homes and commercial buildings may need 320 or 400 amp. A load calculation tells us the right size, so you are not paying for more than you need.
What is the difference between a meter box and a panel upgrade?
The meter box (meter base) is where the utility’s meter plugs in, and it has to be rated for your service size. The panel distributes power to your circuits. A service upgrade, such as 100 to 200 amp, usually involves both, plus the service mast and entrance conductors.
How long does a panel upgrade take?
The work itself typically takes a day, with the power off during the changeover. The date depends on scheduling the utility disconnect and reconnect and the inspection, and we give you a timeline with your estimate.
Do I need a permit for a panel or meter upgrade?
Yes. Service and panel upgrades require a permit, an inspection and coordination with the utility, and we handle all three.
How much does an electrical panel upgrade cost?
Meter box service and electrical panel service each start at $2,150, materials and labor. The final price depends on the existing equipment and what code requires, confirmed in writing before we start.
Can you get my home ready for a generator or EV charger?
Yes. We size the upgrade with EV charging and generator receptacles in mind, and we also install generators — ask when you call.
