Damaged meter box FAQ
Who fixes a damaged meter box — me or the utility?
In most cases the utility owns the meter and the lines up to your house, while the meter socket, service mast, weatherhead and panel belong to the property owner. That equipment has to be repaired by a licensed electrician before the utility will restore power.
Why won’t the utility turn my power back on?
After damage to owner-side equipment, utilities usually require the repair to be completed, and often inspected, before they reconnect. We handle the repair, the permit, the inspection and the coordination with the utility — AES Indiana, Duke Energy, a municipal utility or a co-op.
Will insurance cover a damaged meter box?
Storm and tree damage to service equipment is often covered by homeowner’s and property policies, but check with your insurer. Photos and an itemised invoice from us will help with your claim.
Do you work with tree services, contractors and restoration companies?
Yes. If a tree took out the service or a restoration job needs the electrical rebuilt, call us and we will take the electrical side off your hands.
